During my commute to work on this fine rainy-ish Wednesday morning, I was listening to NPR as I always do, and they had the most peculiar story. Starbucks is considering serving alcohol in order to increase evening revenue. As you would suspect, the caffeine giant’s revenue declines toward the end of the day because well most people don’t want caffeine at night.
However, is this the right move for them? They were the trend setter for gourmet coffee. Is wine and beer the next step for them? I don’t think so. They are a “specialty” coffee shop not a bar. I am not sure what action they should take to grow their business; however, turning starbucks into a bar, just doesn’t feel right.
That is my 2 cents … and now I want a Skinny Vanilla Latte!
